Paypal. The Skoda of payment gateways ?

Fraser McCulloch - Friday, May 14, 2010
I just purchased Unleashing the Super Ideavirus on the new Vook platform and they are not processing card payments via personal paypal accounts.

Alot of business people look down their noses at Paypal as a serious payment gateway. Sure it had a bad reputation in the past but I've never had a problem sending or receiving payments.

My favourite music download site uses Paypal.

Don't miss out on giving your customers the choice of using your standard payment gateway as well as offering them paypal.

Platonik, powered by Adobe Business Catalyst, offer a very smooth payment gateway set up and integration as below:

Feeling all warm and fuzzy

Fraser McCulloch - Friday, November 20, 2009

If you have ever purchased a product online, at some point you will have had to telephone the vendor and ask them the status of your order; "when will it arrive?", "it hasn't arrived yet?".

I made a book at Blurb recently and above is the shipping status of my order.

It is comforting to know my order is on its way, when it will arrive and I have one less thing to worry about.

Fedex and DHL Shipping services seamlessly integrate with the Business Catalyst ecommerce platform and I hope to integrate Fedex with online shops I'm building.

Why does implementing a services for customers post sale matter ? Read Seth's $74,000 future business just walked out the door post.

Lining up your ecommerce ducks

Fraser McCulloch - Monday, October 19, 2009

An ecommerce web site should not really that long to build. The most important part is the pre planning and the pre built requirements. When you have the following ducks lined up, the development time is rapidly reduced and enables your online store to come to market a helluva lot quicker.

Lining up the ecommerce ducks:

Stock file - everything about your product and prices that your end user needs to know.

Your internet merchant account and payment gateway should be activated. You really need to get your finger out on this one; Sagepay at the moment are offering businesses a no-nonsense and easy way to get an internet merchant account and payment gateway set up in around 10 working days via the Bank of Scotland.

Your product photography - this does the selling for you and you should have multiples images per product. A big mistake many businesses make is to that the product photography from their catalogue or retailers taking their wholesalers photography. Big mistake. Selling products to consumers is different from selling to trade customers.

Your website design and the shopping journey from home page to checkout should be signed off by the brand marketing and ecommerce project manager

Your functionality specification should be signed off - ie : this page does this, that button is for that, this function is for etc.
