I’ve been in marketing for 25 years and building websites for the previous 10 years and always included keyword research, content creation and on-page optimisation as part of the site build.

- Publishing a page covering a topic in depth (1890 words per page or more) helps with search engine rankings.
Your organic visibility and traffic won’t improve if you don’t have a proactive monthly plan to create content, build backlinks, and boost your domain authority.

Advanced On Page SEO
This is an advanced on-page search engine optimisation technique for pages that are already ranking in Google.
So if you log into your Google Search Console and see that you don’t get organic clicks for any of your web pages, then this on-page optimisation hack is not for you, and I suggest you learn SEO here.
I would recommend that you get an SEO audit of your existing pages.
Then hire someone to do keyword research using a paid-for keyword tool (not the Google keyword planner tool) and recommend an easy to rank page topic
your website can start earning organic traffic from.
Research has proven it takes longer to rank new pages than existing pages.
One good reason for implementing this SEO hack is that you can improve existing pages and do not have to create a brand new page from scratch.
New content is time-consuming to create and takes much longer to rank for.
By improving an existing web page, you stand a better chance of increasing your organic impressions, rankings and traffic.
I’m about to show you this technique only work with page formats such as long-form pages like reviews, guides, and tutorials.
You will struggle using this approach on a services page, about us page or an e-commerce catalogue or product page.
Long-form pages tend to get shared and linked to more often and demonstrate your authority and expertise on a subject.

Notice how the related search query appears in the meta description area.
The ‘Jump To” followed by the search query replaces the default meta description I created in the backend of my website.
And the Jump To meta description is different for each search query.
Step by Step Guide to the Jump To SEO Hack
I want to guide you to every step I take to get these related searches ranking for your web page.
Now I can’t promise you results as I’ve yet to see another page show “Jump To” links in the meta description.
I’m a pioneer of this SEO hack, and the fact is nothing comes with a guarantee.
So let’s start with the first step by understanding Google related searches.
Google Related Searches
Pick one of your pages.
Choose your main or seed keyword; in my example, the main keyword is ‘adobe business catalyst’.
Now Google your primary keyword.
Scroll to the bottom of the search results.
You will see in bold text “searches related to adobe business catalyst”.
This is the Google related searches feature.
The feature highlights people who search for this, also search for these related searches.
Google is giving you keyword suggestions on what else you could include on your page.
Click one of the results.
Here’s the search result.
Scroll down again and look at more searches related to.
If you aren’t ranking on page one for that search query now, you have one idea of improving your page.
I looked at another related search, “searches related to business catalyst v wordpress”.
I’m ranking for that query, so I clicked another related search link.
Next, I looked at “searches related to business catalyst v wordpress 2017”.
You are looking for some search queries that your page doesn’t have any content created around.
That’s when I found “business catalyst v squarespace”.
I then looked at my Google Analytics (which is connected to Google Search Console) to see any search impressions relating to ‘squarespace’.
- Log in to Google Analytics.
- Click the Acquisition tab.
- Select Search Console.
- Choose Landing Pages.
- Pick the page url.
- In the search box enter part of your ‘related’ query.
Alternatively, you could use a keyword research tool to find search queries for your page that you have not written about.
Write new content
Now you need to write additional, helpful content based on that search query.
In my case, I knew the subject matter fairly well, having used Squarespace to build a website.
So I was experienced and knowledgeable enough to write some insightful content that compared the 2 systems.
In total, I wrote around 400 words when I upgraded my page.
I recently mentioned this SEO hack to a client, and he told me it took some of the related searches and added them as phrases to the body copy of his page.
This did not work for him.
So think about the additional content you are adding as a mini blog post, not a few phrases.
Why don’t I just create a brand new page?
According to the keyword research tools I use, there are no searches each month for this query.
So creating a brand new page would be a waste of time and effort.
I would only create a brand new page if the search volume was high and was a completely different topic.
For example, “squarespace vs wordpress” (a completely different topic unrelated to business catalyst).
Page topic based on research
Here’s a page I created for a client with Jump To links.
I did comprehensive keyword research to find highly searched terms with low keyword difficulty.
For each chapter in the table of contents, I used the most popular search queries.
The links in your chapters must go to an h2 header section on the page for this technique to work.
I believe an h2 heading on a page signals to Google that this section is of secondary importance to your page content.
So if you don’t have any h2 headers on your page, you should have at least a few to include on the table of content you will add.
Table of content
You can hand-code a table of contents or use the WordPress plugin Table of Contents Plus.
The reason for a table of content with links on a web page is to help the user skip to the piece of content on the page they are interested in.
In my example, a user may already know the benefits of one product but then wants to compare it with another product; hence the product v product search
She doesn’t want to read all about product x again; she just wants some advice on product x compared to product y.
So I’m helping the user get to the content quicker, and I believe Google is rewarding the user and my page with the Jump To link.
Increased time on page
I checked my page statistics and my average time on a page on my website is 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
Then I compared this with pages that had a table of content.
/business-ideas - 3 minutes 50 seconds. /adobe-business-catalyst - 4 minutes 30 seconds.
So the Jump To hack and inclusion of a table of contents appears to be helpful.
Responsive Grid and columns.
Most modern websites are built on some form of a responsive grid system.
Foundation Zurb and Bootstrap have grid systems that are easy to learn and implement their code snippets.
I applied a two-column layout inside a row.
Then inside each column is an unordered list.
Here’s what the code looks like.
To make this SEO hack work, the text in the list must match the text in the h2 header.
If your website is built on WordPress, I recommend you use the following plugin as it’s quicker than hand-coding.
WordPress Table of Content Plus plugin
Within WordPress, there is a free plugin called Table of Content Plus that you can install to achieve a table of content or chapter functionality like my
To find the plugin, log into WordPress.
- Select Plugins – Add New from the left navigation.
- In the Search for box, enter Table of Content Plus and hit return.
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Then go to plugins and click settings underneath Under Table of Content Plus.
- Under settings, you only want to customise some of the options; I’ve highlighted with arrows the ones I customised.
- Click Advanced and make sure only heading 2 – h2 is selected – this ensures only h2 headings are included in your table of contents.
- Go to the page you are upgrading and insert the shortcode .

I also add ‘back to top’ anchor links throughout my page so that the user can skip up and down and through my page like a book or digital
In HTML or source code view, add the following above the table of content.
Then place the following at the end of each section or above the next h2 heading in the source or HTML view.
This advanced SEO hack is entirely different from just adding some semantically related search queries to your page.
